AI recommends businesses that are easy to understand
For a local business to be visible in ChatGPT and AI search in Riga, it has to be clear, trustworthy and consistent across public sources: the Google profile, niche directories, reviews and its own website.
The AI cannot confidently recommend a business when it is unclear what it does, where it works, how to contact it and why it can be trusted.
This is not only SEO. It is about whether the AI can quickly understand your business and match it to the customer's exact question.
The AI searches the web — often in English
In our study the AI searched the web before answering in 902 of 902 cases — 3.3 searches per answer on average.
When the customer asked in Russian, 759 of 1522 (50%) of the AI's searches were in English or mixed; for Latvian questions, 462 of 1419 (33%).
Directories and business lists were in the AI's search results for 618 of 902 (69%) of answers, but a link to a business the AI named went to that business's own website in 1860 of 1937 (96%) of cases.
1150 of 2989 (38%) of the AI's searches looked for a business's official website.

The study and its methodFour signals that help AI recommend a local business
When someone asks ChatGPT for a local recommendation, the AI does not look for one magic factor but for several signals together.
Can the AI find you?
The business has to be findable in public sources and tied to its category, city and services.
Does the AI understand what you offer?
Your profile and website should say simply who you are, which services you provide, where you work and who you help.
Does the business look trustworthy?
Reviews, the Google profile, contacts, photos and clear content help the AI and customers choose with confidence.
Do your facts match everywhere?
Name, address, phone, opening hours and services should be the same in every source.
A practical AI visibility checklist
The basics that make a local business clearer for both people and AI.
- State your category and city at the very top of your profile and website.
- List your main services clearly.
- Make contacts and booking easy to see.
- Tidy up your Google Business Profile.
- Check that name, address and phone match everywhere.
- Get listed in the niche directories the AI finds.
- Ask for reviews regularly, not once a year.
- Add an FAQ with real customer questions.
- Add short information in English.
You do not have to do it all at once. What matters is knowing which signals are weakest in your case and fixing those first.
A dental clinic in Riga
A customer may not just type “dentist Riga”. They may ask something much more specific: “where in Riga can I get a tooth fixed on insurance?”, “which clinic treats children?” or “where can I see a dentist today?”.
If one clinic has a clear public answer to that question and the others do not, the AI may pick that clinic.
- Broad query
- dentist Riga
- Specific question
- where in Riga can I get a tooth fixed on insurance?
- What the AI looks for
- Clear information about the service, payment, booking, location and reviews.
An example, not a guaranteed result. Nobody can guarantee AI recommendations, but you can put in order the signals that help a business be understood.
AI often responds to very specific customer questions
Many AI recommendations come from a specific situation. So answer not only “what do you do?” but questions like these:
- «Can this service be paid for with insurance?»
- «Can I book for the same day?»
- «Do you serve children, families or companies?»
- «Can I talk to you in English?»
- «Where exactly are you, and is it easy to get there?»
- «Which services do you offer and how do they differ?»

Questions
Can anyone guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?
No. Nobody can guarantee AI recommendations. You can put the public signals in order — Google profile, directories, reviews and website — so the AI finds it easier to understand your business and recommend it with confidence.
Is a good Google ranking enough?
Not always. Google visibility still matters, but AI tools draw on a wider set of sources: profiles, directories, reviews, content and outside pages.
Do I need special content for ChatGPT?
Artificial content is not needed. What is needed is clear, specific answers to real customer questions. That helps people and AI alike.
Is this only for Riga?
For now LocalUp works with Riga businesses, because the local competitive context matters a lot here.
What if the AI already names my business?
That is a good sign. Asked the same question on another day, the AI named that question's most-named business again in 72% of answers on average — answers change, so we count “N of M”, not one answer. Next, find out how often you are named compared with competitors, and strengthen it with reviews and directories.
